An Eclipse is one of nature's most amazing and beautiful sights. Solar eclipses occur at a new moon, when the earth is in the moon's shadow; lunar eclipses are at full moon, when the moon passes into the earth's shadow. Partial eclipses, annular eclipses, and the partial phases of total eclipses are never safe to watch without taking special precautions. Lunar eclipses are special events that only occur when certain conditions are met. Lunar eclipses are only possible during a full moon, when the Moon is directly opposite the Sun. These are perfectly fine for viewing without any precautions. Throughout history, the eclipse has been studied, worshiped, and feared. For example, Solar eclipses were associated with new beginnings and lunar eclipses are associated with completions or endings. Solar eclipses are nowadays major tourist attractions, but in ancient times, they were events of ill omen, to be dreaded and feared. Total eclipses are widely regarded as one of Nature's greatest spectacles.
