Alaska is an outdoor enthusiast and sportsman's paradise because it is still unspoiled and untouched. Alaska is home to around 2000 valley glaciers, including nearly 700 that are named. Out of the 20 largest mountains in North America, Alaska is home to 17. Much of Alaska is built on frozen ground called permafrost, a soil condition that results when the yearly temperature averages below freezing. The most impressive aspect of Alaska is its size. When a map of Alaska is superimposed over the contiguous 48 states, it covers Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. To the lover of pure wilderness, Alaska is one of the most wonderful places in the world!
